On September 15, 1946 Elder Lee Munson, our first pastor, along with
Brother Johnnie Agnew, Brother Lee Thompson, and Brother Fitzhugh
Odom, our first deacons, started The Church Of The Living God (also
known as The Love Corner) in the home of Deacon and Sister Agnew
(709 N. Fourth Street, Champaign).  Services were held in the Agnew's
home, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and Parker and Sons
Funeral Home, until a new church building was constructed in the fall of
1960, at 801 N. Poplar Street, Champaign.  Elder Munson retired in
1967, after more than 20 years of devoted service; and Eldress Mary
Mullen (now Overseer) was appointed pastor.  In 1969, Urban Renewal
was responsible for the church relocating to its present site - 1109
North Fourth Street, Champaign.  Eldress Mullen served the body
faithfully for 14 years, paving the way for many women ministers, before
retiring.  In July of 1981, Elder Lloyd E. Gwin (now Bishop) was
appointed as the third pastor of the Champaign church and truly the
Lord has blessed us.  The growth of the ministry made it necessary to
enlarge the church building in 1991 - doubling our capacity.  Today, we
have a committed membership of more than 1,500.  Still growing, we
purchased 36 acres of land, which will serve as the site for our new
worship center, along with community housing  sub-division.  Thank
God for the love, the prayers, and the gifts of time and wealth from the
members, friends, and Covenant Faith Partners of the Love Corner
family.
